The Feral Biome Story cards are filled with archetypes found in fairytales, myths, parables, and folktales. An archetype is a recurrent symbol or motif in literature, art, or mythology. There are many kinds of archetypes. While an archetype is often thought to be the original model from which something is developed or made, it is important to note that there is nuance within different cultures as to how an archetype is understood or translated.
The cards may be used in multiple ways and by an individual or a group:
A traditional tarot spread, in which cards are shuffled and 3 or more cards are drawn randomly. The player uses their intuition to discern the meaning of their fairytale.
The player may draw one or more cards from each archetype category - represented by the different colored trees on the back of the cards - to craft their fairytale. The green trees move the story forward. The blue trees signify talismans or objects of good luck and magic that will help the player along their journey. The orange trees, also known as The Wolves, signify emotions a player may encounter along their journey. The pink trees signify family relationships that occur in many fairy tales. The purple trees represent abstracts of time that a player may experience or think about on their journey. The yellow trees represent helpers or allies that a player may find on their journey.
The player may also turn all of the cards face up, at one time, choosing which cards speak to them, and create a fairytale from those cards.
Or the player may use the cards in their own unique way to tell their fairytale!
The main objective is for the player to use their imagination, look for multiple possibilities for how their fairytale could be told and to have fun!
The cards have specific meanings to their creator, however they may have a different meaning to each player - there are no right or wrong interpretations.
