Book Forms

Abstacted Books, Art Objects

Using a wide variety of techniques drawn from bookmaking, paper cutting, fiber art, drawing and painting – these abstracted books are interactive vehicles to “read” and “tell” visual narratives. My book forms overlap with some of my games in that they are experiential, interactive and open ended. They are made to enliven the participant’s imagination and seek to elevate objects and materials associated with childhood – paper dolls, fortune tellers, pop-up books, shrinky-dinks, “magical” collected items (rocks, string, feathers, etc), character-card games – into works of art that can be appreciated by both children and adults. The book forms can be displayed open as paper sculptures or they can be folded up as a book, for easy storage and transportation.
